Our dear friend, and former City of Longmont Mayor Bryan Baum passed away Thursday, May 29, 2025. Bryan has been fighting cancer for over 15 years. This battle cost Bryan exponential amounts of money to survive. Over the past weeks the Skyline Kiwanis has collected donations on his behalf. We will continue this fundraising effort to help his family with the mountains of remaining bills.

Bryan Lewis Baum
July 22, 1958 – May 29, 2025

A devoted father, friend, and public servant, Bryan Lewis Baum passed away peacefully on the morning of May 29, 2025, after courageously living with cancer for 15 years. He was 66 years old.

Born July 22, 1958, in Kirksville, Missouri, Bryan was the son of Lewis Carol Baum and Alyce Chase Baum, grew up alongside his sister Carol Chase Baum in a close-knit family. His early years in Kirksville shaped a character defined by curiosity, humor, and a lifelong spirit of adventure. Bryan carried those qualities into every stage of his life, bringing joy, integrity, and a deep love for others wherever he went.

Bryan graduated in 1980 from Truman State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, concentrating in Public Administration, Management, and Personnel Management. He built a career helping others plan for their future, most recently as a Senior Wealth Manager at Baum and Blockhus Wealth Management.

After moving to Longmont, Colorado, Bryan found a true sense of community and purpose. For more than 40 years, he called Longmont home, pouring his energy into civic service and charitable work. His deep belief in the Rotary Four-Way Test—especially the question “Will it build goodwill and better friendships?”—guided his actions both personally and professionally.

From 2009 to 2011, Bryan served as Mayor of Longmont, bringing thoughtful leadership and enthusiastic advocacy to city government. His commitment to service extended far beyond his time in office. Bryan volunteered for dozens of nonprofits, often becoming the face and heart of the cause. He was especially proud to serve as the “Superconductor” of the Longmont Symphony and was recognized as one of the Magnificent Men of A Woman’s Work non-profit organization.

Bryan held leadership roles across numerous organizations, including the Longmont Symphony Board, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, the Longs Peak Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Rotary Club of Longmont, where he served as both President and Assistant District Governor. He was also honored by induction into the Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society of Scouting.

Above all else, Bryan’s greatest joy was being a father to his children, Chase Lewis Baum and Brooklynn Kay Baum, whom he shared with his former wife, Stephanie Kay Seale. Though they later divorced, Bryan and Stephanie remained close friends and devoted co-parents. He was their children’s strongest supporter, wisest teacher, and greatest source of love. Bryan was also a second father to many of their friends and a mentor to many more.

Bryan Baum’s legacy is one of kindness, service, stoicism and community. Whether leading in public office, volunteering at local events, or simply offering a helping hand, he lived with humility and heart. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Bryan’s Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Flanders Neighborhood Park, 2115 North Shore Drive, Longmont, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
